LaserGen

LaserGen is working with National Instruments to develop a new NGS system. National Instruments will provide the hardware while LaserGen will provide their ‘Lightning Terminator’ chemistry – a reversible terminator chemistry using photocleavable dyes and terminating groups, allowing for the use of standard DNA polymerases. The hope is that this will lead to higher accuracy and longer reads. Their initial projections are for an instrument that is capable of generating at least 1Gb per day.

Key Paper: Wu, W et al. (2007) Termination of DNA synthesis by N6-alkylated, not 3′-O-alkylated, photocleavable 2′-deoxyadenosine triphosphates. Nucleic Acids Res., 35:6339-6349.

Status: Development (projected to enter testing in early 2012)
Projected commercial availability: Unknown
